William F. “Bill” Sommer, age 75 of West Carrollton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Dayton VA Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 3, 1949, in Mexico City, Mexico, the son of the late Charles & Frances (Cowells) Sommer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary (Plessinger) Sommer, and four sons William Jr. (Heather), Tom (Alissa), Steve (Stephanie), and Tim (Shelby) along with grandchildren Aidan, Autumn, Will Jr., Isaac, Sadie, Mia, Norah, Colton, Oakley and Willow, his sister Linda Sommer Wilkinson (John), his 2 brothers Charles Jr. (Diane), and David (Linda Ann) all from California, as well as his niece, 3 nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Bill was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and spent a lifelong career as a teacher in West Carrollton City Schools, positively influencing the lives of many students as both teacher and coach. Bill Sommer was first and foremost a dedicated family man and loyal friend. Bill Sommer dedicated his life to his students, but more importantly he saw that his life should revolve around his sons and their families. He often said that the most important thing that made his life worth living was his grandkids. He will be missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Swart Funeral Home, West Carrollton. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
