Varon V. Tompkins, age 90, of Miamisburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 30, 1934, in Armathwaite, TN, the son of the late Gertie (Ellis) and Lawrence Tompkins.
Mr. Tompkins honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a former Printer for McCall’s with 28 ½ years of service, and a former employee of ABS Cleaning Co. Varon was a member for 40 years of the Crossroads Baptist Church in West Chester and served as Deacon at the church.
Preceded in death by his 3 sons Varon L. Tompkins, February 25, 1994, Vincent Scott Tompkins on May 5, 2013, and Michael R. “Mike” Mathews on February 23, 2019, his grandson Mason Lee Welch on August 19, 2000, and by his sister Reiginia Combs.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Mears) Tompkins, his daughter Melanie Welch and husband Ronnie, his brother Elwood “Woody” Tompkins, 4 grandchildren Chase Welch (Erica Lakins), Shelby Welch, Darrell Welch, Stephanie Ruth and husband Jacob, 2 great grandchildren Ryder Michael Welch and Taylor Rose Ruth, his sister-in-law Charlotte Noel, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the Swart Funeral Home, West Carrollton with Pastor Jim Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow at Woodhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (2 hours prior) to service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
