JJ Arnold, age 81 of Moraine, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Kettering Health Network – Main Campus. He was born on December 31, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Junius “J.M.” and Thelma E. (Miller) Arnold.

JJ’s parents J.M. & Thelma Arnold owned and operated the Elm Restaurant located at 2626 Springboro Road, in Moraine. JJ worked alongside his parents at the restaurant before beginning his career in law enforcement. Patrolman JJ Arnold began his career with the Moraine Police Dept. in 1964. Ptl. Arnold spent the majority of his career on the midnight shift but also contributed to the police department as a firearm and use force instructor. He was placed on undercover assignments with the Combined Agencies for Narcotic Enforcement Task Force (C.A.N.E.) where he focused his effort on building cases against high-level drug traffickers.

JJ enjoyed music and was a drummer for the police band, Night Blaze. His love of music continued after his retirement in 1997, and he went on to travel the country with a group of talented bluegrass musicians.  

JJ grew up in Moraine and invested his life to service. He was referred to as a “Cops Cop” by his coworkers and close friends. He will be greatly missed.

Preceded in death by his only son David J. Arnold on February 9, 1974.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Swart Funeral Home, 207 E. Central Ave., West Carrollton. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Evergreen Cemetery, 401 N. Miami Ave., West Carrollton, OH 45449.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Fairhaven Church (Outreach Program), 637 E. Whipp Rd., Centerville, OH 45459 in memory of Ptl. JJ Arnold.
