Paul Thomas “Tom” Settle, Jr., age 81 of Dayton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 30, 1942, in Dayton, OH, the son of the late Paul T. Settle, Sr. & Lova (Arnett) Norris.
Mr. Settle graduated from West Carrollton High School in 1960. Tom honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic and log yeoman on the Ticonderoga & USS Lexington. He was a retired Millwright and Welder for General Motors with 32.4 years of service, and former bench worker repairing label guns for Avery Dennison from 1998 to 2019. Tom was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in West Carrollton 1958 to 1973, and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Miamisburg since 1974. Tom was on the Finance Committee, a Trustee, Vice President of the church Council; he also sang in the traditional and contemporary choir, as well as serving on chicken dinners at St. John’s. He and his wife Karen were involved with several Square Dance Clubs including Kittyhawk – where Tom & Karen were both the Treasurer & Vice President. He was a member of the Tuesday Plus, and the American Legion Post #165, Miamisburg.
Tom enjoyed: reading and playing cards with family and friends. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great granddaughter, friends, and church family. Also, he enjoyed cooking, going to flea markets, traveling and some woodworking.
Preceded in death by his sister Sandra “Sandy” Sue Settle-Robbins and by his brother-in-law Harold “Moose” Robbins, and by his stepfather David Norris.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Karen E. (Kuhn) Settle, his son and best friend Paul T. Settle, III, his daughter Sheryl “Sheri” Sanner and husband Joseph “Joe”, 3 grandchildren Hannah Settle (David Hall), Kelsie (Sanner) Daugherty and husband Sam, and Jacob “Jake” Sanner
(Rachel Ducceschi), great granddaughter Bexley Erion and great grandson Denver Thomas Hall on the way, best friends Tim & Sherry Stuart, as well as other relatives and many friends. He was one a kind and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the David’s Cemetery Chapel, 4600 Mad River Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45459 with Pastor Heidi Johns officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (30 minutes prior to service) in the Chapel at David’s Cemetery. The Combined Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors at 10:30 a.m.
