James "Jim" E. Courtney Obituary

James E “Jim” Courtney, age 89 of Dayton, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. He was born on February 19, 1933, in Dayton, Ohio the son of the late Charles & Kathryn (Jay) Courtney.


Jim was a graduate of West Carrollton High School where he met the young lady who would become his wife, Donna S. (Smith) Courtney. Mr. Courtney was a former employee of his family’s business, Franklin Ready Mix; he worked in the gravel division, maintenance dept., and was concrete driver for Moraine Materials, and was the plant manager for Essex Co. - Dow Materials with over 30 years combined service. He was a member of the Parkview United Methodist Church.


Preceded in death by his wife Dr. Donna S. Courtney on March 14, 2021, and by his sister Marilyn Meno. He is survived by his loving son James Gregory “Greg” Courtney, as well as numerous other family members and many friends.


Private Services will be held at Miami Valley Memory Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to the Swart Funeral Home, West Carrollton. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a memorial tree program or to the Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton in Jim’s memory.
