Delbert Barker, Sr., age 91 of Franklin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 3, 1932, in Frenchburg, Kentucky, the son of the late Alvin & Sarah (Langworthy) Barker.
Mr. Barker was a retired Police Lieutenant for the City of Middletown with 26 years of service. He was a member of the Delbert Barker Gospel Trio Band, and avid guitarist. He was inducted into the Rock-A-Billy Hall of Fame and wrote a number one song “You Almost Slipped My Mind” for Charley Pride. Delbert attended the Christian Enterprise Baptist Church, and he was a 32nd degree Mason for Jefferson Masonic Lodge #90, Middletown.
Preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Alma Jean (Pence) Barker on February 10, 2018, 2 brothers Raymond Barker & Clayton Barker, who passed away in WWII, and his sister Cuba Hall.
He is survived by his son Delbert Barker, Jr., his adopted daughter Tamara Finn, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024, at the Swart Funeral Home, 207 E. Central Ave., West Carrollton, Ohio with Rev. James Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodside Cemetery in Middletown. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (2 hours prior to service) on Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to his son Delbert Barker, Jr. to assist with expenses.
