Barry Thompson Obituary

Barry Thompson, age 74 of Centerville, was welcomed into Heaven on Friday, December 4, 2020. He was born on July 9, 1946 in Dayton, OH, the son of the late Robert & Martha (Greenlee) Thompson.

Barry was a retired plumber for Dayton Public Schools and formerly Schott Plumbing and Rambo Westendorf, with over 50 years of combined service. He was an active member of Newspring Church in Springboro where, for 20 years, he taught Adult Sunday School and previously invested in youth, teaching them for 17 years. Barry exuberantly volunteered with Bands of America “BOA” for 20 years and invested time in the Centerville Jazz Band and Soaring Sounds for 6 years.

Barry’s “bigger than life” personality, optimistic attitude and broad smile were infectious. For over 40 years he was selflessly committed to the cause of Christ and to others.

Barry was the sixth of seven children. His sister, Darlene Thompson, is his only surviving sibling. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Thompson, Leslie “Les” Thompson & James Thompson and sisters, Aviline Maroney & Janice Gaad.

Barry is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Fee Thompson, his best friend and the love of his life for nearly 40 years. Being a family man, Barry’s proudest achievement was the legacy of his 2 daughters Michelle (Stewart) Huber & Bethany (Tyler) Reynolds along with his well-loved grandchildren Kate, Brielle and Silas Huber, Levi Reynolds and Nora Reynolds (arriving in March 2021). He is also survived by his beloved mother-in-law, Shirley Hoerner as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Barry’s daughter, Nita McKinney, granddaughters Leah & Kayla, and 2 great-granddaughters also survive his death.
