Obituary

Reed, LaVerne A. (Appleton), age 96 of Galion, OH, formerly of West Carrollton, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Magnolia Terrace. She was born on February 11, 1921 in Gibson Co., TN, the daughter of the late James Roy, Sr., & Alta M., (Johnson) Appleton. Mrs. Reed received her higher education from Union University in Jackson, TN and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She was a teacher in Gibson Co., for 2 years before accepting a position in the medical office of the Wolf Creek Ordinance Plant in Milan, TN.  Mrs. Reed honorably served her in country in the U.S. Army during WWII; while in the U.S. Army, she met her husband, Lloyd G. Reed of Mt. Sterling, KY. They were married in 1948 and moved to the Dayton area. Together they had one son, Larry Keith Reed.  She was an employee of Grandview Hospital from 1948-1954, and by the Dille Laboratories from 1954-1990 when she retired; and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, West Carrollton. Preceded in death by her husband Lloyd G. Reed, her son Larry Keith Reed, 4 sisters Elizabeth Hicks, Evelyn Gaugh, Christine Donnelley, Jane Forrester, and by a great granddaughter Kaylee Mancuso. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Bobbi Reed, grandson Alex Reed (Jenny), 2 granddaughters Ashley Mancuso (Chuck), & Annie Reed McCarthy (Andrew), 3 great grandchildren, Nathan, Andrea & Addison Reed, her brother James Roy Appleton, Jr., (Beverly), 3 sisters Sarah Henley, Flodell McAnaw, Yvonne Buntin (Tommy), special nephew Tim Reed, as well as numerous other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the SWART & WOLFE FUNERAL HOME, West Carrollton with Pastor Sarah Sparks-Franklin officiating. Burial Evergreen Cemetery, with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Monday.
