IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John G.
Shady
September 18, 1944 – October 6, 2024
John G. Shady, age 80 of Moraine, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the Tomlinson Adult Care Home in Grant Township, MI, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on September 18, 1944, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the son of the late William A. & Earline M. (Bickford) Shady.
John was a proud resident and former city council member for the City of Moraine. He enjoyed sharing stories of his many years working on the road as a truck driver where he hauled everything from cars to livestock and visited 48 of 50 states. He enjoyed being around people, and particularly enjoyed making them laugh. When he wasn't talking politics or truck driving, you would find him cheering for his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball teams. John was a graduate of Monmouth High School, Monmouth, Iowa, where he graduated at 16 years of age. He very much enjoyed writing poetry and has a published poem in the Library of Congress in Washington DC. He loved his Hawkeyes, his family, and his city. He will be laid to rest beside Sarilynne, his sweet wife of nearly 41 years, who preceded him in death in March of 2023. John and Sarilynne attended the Miami Shores Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children Mindy (Andy) VanBergen, Brook Shady, Gabriel (Dawn) Shady, Nicholas Hilden, Mary Anna Hilden, Lewis, III (Connie) Maynard, and Mona DeCaminada, his brother Tom (Vicki) Shady, his sister Melody Duwa, his sister-in-law Karen Tomlinson, his grandchildren Jordan (David) Carbajal, Hunter (Katie) Shady, Ethan (Rebecca) Shady, Arabella Shady, Joshua (Karen) Hilden, Christopher (Erin) Hilden, Lewis Maynard, IV, Jeremy Maynard, Leanne Bear, Shirley Lyson, Kristy Couch, Amanda (Jason) Iaconelli, and Travis DeCaminada, as well as numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the Swart Funeral Home, West Carrollton with Pastor Doug Surber officiating. Burial will follow at Ellerton Cemetery in Moraine. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (2 hours prior to service) on Monday at the funeral home.
