Schmidt, Sr. James A. "Jim", age 79 of Germantown passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at The Laurels of West Carrollton. He was born on August 1, 1939 in Dayton, Ohio the son of the late Charles & Ruth (Miller) Schmidt.

Mr. Schmidt honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.  Jim owned and operated the J & L Sawdust Co. and was also a retired Truck Driver with  over 30 years of service. He was a member of the VFW and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2292, Germantown.

Preceded in death by his wife Loretta Schmidt on February 26, 2002, his daughter Angela Owens on August 24, 2014, and by his grandson Brian L. "Shorty" Moffitt on March 2, 2009.

He is survived his daughter Glenda Lindsey and husband Ben, his son James A. Schmidt, Jr., 2 brothers Robert "Bob" Schmidt and wife Judy, Theodore "Ted" Schmidt and wife Frieda, 6 grandchildren Brandon Moffitt, Christopher Schmidt, Joshua Schmidt, Breanna Owens, Dakota Owens, and Dalton Owens, 4 great grandchildren Kylee Moffitt, Emryk Moffitt, Brennan Moffitt, and Lilly Schmidt as well as numerous other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Swart Funeral Home, West Carrollton with Pastor Shawn Watson officiating. Burial Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. www.swartfuneralhome.com.
