IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donovan D.
Wilson, Sr.
November 15, 1935 – October 11, 2017
Donovan D. Wilson, Sr., age 81 of West Carrollton, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Sycamore Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on November 15, 1935 in Boulder, Colorado, the son of the late Paul & Dorotha (Bowdin) Wilson.
After graduation from Academy in the spring of 1952 Don spent the following two years at Keene, graduating from Southwestern Junior College in the spring of 1954. Mr. Wilson's educational back ground includes a certificate in Medical Technology from Madison College in Tennessee 1956; a Bachelor of Science in medical Technology from Southern Missionary College, 1967, a certificate in Health Care Administration from Trinity University, 1972, and a Master's degree in Management from Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida, 1977.
Mr. Wilson had the privilege of an interesting and varied work history primarily within Health Care. After spending approximately twelve years working as a Medical Technologist, he went to work for Adventist Health System in many different capacities which created a very exciting career path. He went to work for Florida Hospital first as Director of Professional Recruitment, then became Director of Patients Business and then as Vice President of Florida Hospital, he had the responsibility at some time for virtually every department within the Hospital. Probably the most challenging post was serving on the Data Processing Committee and made responsible for the development of the hospitals very first Five-year Plan for Data Processing.
In 1978 Don was asked to serve as Interim Administrator for the Trust Territory Government Hospital in Majuro, Marshall Islands. This experience was followed by a two year appointment as Administrator of the University Hospital, Montemorelos, Mexico. Upon his return to the states, he was asked to serve as President of North American Health Services. His work included the development and reorganization of the for-profit subsidiaries of Adventist Health System/Sunbelt. In 1986, he accepted the responsibility as a Director for Purchasing Contracts (Medical-Surgical, Lab and Radiology) for Adventist Health Systems/United States. Shortly after closing of Adventist Health Systems/US, Don chose a new career doing consulting in the area of Accounts Payable where he remained until retirement in 1996. Retirement did not last long for Don as he went to work for a health care group purchasing organization in New Jersey, with National Account responsibility for more than half of the United States serving from California to Florida.
Although his life expectations of being a physician were never met, Don felt that the Lord gave guidance to his life, and although he made many alternate choices to what He may have had in mind for him…He guided me through it all. Mr. Wilson's work had provided many exciting learning opportunities, such as trips to China at the invitation of the Textile Ministry of the Chinese Government. Saw sights such as the Great Wall, The Forbidden City and traveling by train from Beijing to Shanghai !! Another trip allowed him to visit Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Bangkok. However, the greatest blessings of his life have been family, friends, his children and now seven grandchildren.
Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his son Steven Mark Wilson, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
Survivors include his wife loving Frances M. Wilson, his son Dean Wilson, Jr. and wife Wanda, 2 daughters Diane Clem and husband Jim & Susan Wilson, 3 step-sons Darren Haper and wife Casey, Ethan Haper and wife Cori & Garrett Haper, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Centerville Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 456 West Spring Valley Pike, Dayton, Ohio 45458 with Pastor Bill Hrovat officiating.
