Obituary

Dennis R. Huff, age 74 of Dayton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Miami Valley Hospital.  He was born on April 25, 1950, in Richmond, Indiana, the son of the late Raymond N. & Clara G. (Redman) Huff.


Mr. Huff honorably served his country in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. Dennis was a retired Street Maintenance employee for the City of West Carrollton with 30 years of service. Dennis had an eternal love for music and our Lord. He played banjo, guitar, and harmonica and sang gospel and bluegrass at home and at his churches throughout the years.


Dennis was implemental in organizing the Bar Hop'n Biker Bash for numerous years, where he raised thousands of dollars for the Care House at Children's Medical Center in Dayton for children with special needs and wishes. 1992 – Helping critically ill children and sleeping soundly at night were two reasons Vietnam Veteran and motorcycle enthusiast, Dennis Huff, began raising money to help ill children and their families. Every year, Dennis sponsored a child from the Miami Valley's Special Wish Foundation. 1995 – Dennis Huff organized a fund-raising ride to help take 3-year-old Courtney Tyree, diagnosed with leukodystrophy, to Disney World. The event raised $4,300, which was enough to help other children in the area as well. August 15, 1998 – Dennis Huff sponsored the sixth annual Bar Hop'n Bikers motorcycle event to raise funds for A Special Wish Foundation. The event raised record profits of $7,300. 2000 – Dennis Huff hosts the eighth annual Bar Hop'n Biker Bash to raise funds for Adventures for Special Wish Kids. The funds raised sponsored a Christmas party for critically ill children in the Miami Valley. August 18, 2002 – Dennis Huff hosts the tenth annual Bar Hop'n Biker Bash to raise money for Care House at Children's Medical Center in Dayton. Dennis and his friends raised record profits of $33,000. 70% of these funds went directly to Care House while the other 30% went to 5-year-old Emmy Molar, diagnosed with acute lymphocyte leukemia.


Preceded in death by his sister Kay Rector.


He is survived by his loving wife Sandra "Sandy" (Stiltner) Huff, his son Jessy Huff and wife Carrie, his sister Paula Lachat and husband Bobby, 2 grandsons Joshua Reed and Jacob Huff, his 2 nieces Katie Lachat and Kelly Lachat, 2 nephews Brian Rector and wife Heather, Jeff Rector and wife Becky, best friend Mark Jewett and special family friend David Ingram, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.


A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the Swart Funeral Home, West Carrollton with Pastor Larry McIntosh officiating. Burial will follow at the Dayton National Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (1 hour prior to service) on Monday at the funeral home.
