Selma Durham Obituary

Durham, Selma “Sam”, age 81 of Columbus, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the River Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Miamisburg, Ohio. She was born on September 6, 1937 in Cambridge, Ohio, the daughter of the late George & Rose (Faddoul) Kalill.

Sam was a retired Registered Nurse and had a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science.  She taught at Ivy Tech, the Indiana State Board of Health and the Atterbury Job Corp. She was active in the Driftwood Valley Wheelman, as well as the Driftwood Valley Road Runners. Sam biked across the United States, and ran in 3 marathons. She taught belly dancing at the Donner Parks & Recreation Center and the Millrace Center, as well as being involved in White River Games & May Day Medley. Sam was a recipient of the Jack Kramer Award for an athletic competition. She was also able to learn Spanish, and volunteered at the local health clinics; she enjoyed traveling and lived in Argentina for 5 years.

Preceded in death by her brothers Sam Kalill and Charles J. Kalill. She is survived by her 2 sisters Patricia Fedorke of Wheeling, WV, Rosemary Christie Clemenson of Cambridge, OH, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later time at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th Street, Columbus, IN 47203. If so desired memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton or to the Alzheimer’s Association in Sam’s memory.
